The Vinyl Countdown # 1542

Cat Power, The Covers Record (2000)

This album was my introduction to Cat Power – and, yes, the cover of Satisfaction was enough to let me know that I should buy the album and that I wanted to hear more. More from Cat Power. I bought the earlier albums as well. And stayed with her music for a while. Then, all of a sudden I didn’t want to hear any more from her. I didn’t need to hear her. But for a while she was great. Right time/right place I can still listen to a couple of her records now – but one or two is all you need. I was put off by seeing her perform live, hiding her face under a Cousin It hairstyle, linking her songs in implausible medleys, embarrassed by applause and uncomfortable in her own skin. A year or so later she was on the TV with a brass section in tow. I wish her all the best but there’s no reason for me to keep up with her music anymore. Beyond this album. Every now and then I like to revisit this one.

Sample Track: I Found A Reason

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
