R.E.M., Murmur (1983)
I first heard Murmur after the late-80s/early-90s version of R.E.M. So I loved Green and Out Of Time and then wanted to hear where it had come from. Murmur was next for me. And I loved it. Instantly. I’ve argued before that R.E.M. is/was the best band of the 1980s. And they had a good run across the 1990s too – even if they did turn into a different band. Pretty much. Murmur’s always been special for me. And earlier this year, on my first visit to America, it was the first LP I found when digging in the bargains in a cool wee second-hand store in a tiny town. The town seemed like something out of a movie adaptation of a Stephen King novel. And I liked that. Murmur for $7. Definitely a needful thing!
