The Dirty Projectors, Swing Lo Magellan (2012)

Well I love this album. And I think I said that – and about all I need to say about the album right here. But I wanted to include it in the countdown, obviously. I rushed out to buy a copy after falling for the album – in a review sense. The record company refused to send it. I asked for a copy for review. Was told no. Then was told to go buy it if I liked it. Strange. Eventually they sent a burn of it. Then I sent them the blog-post (linked above) that I wrote. And was told “wow, that’s so great. So good you liked it. Thanks! Should help sell a few copies, even”. And it did. To myself. My prize was to go out and buy the vinyl for myself. I’m not complaining though. I was done with Dirty Projectors. I’ve always liked bits and pieces and thought they were very clever but it never quite clicked. With this album I feel they made a masterpiece (and their masterpiece obviously). And I am very excited about seeing the band live again – esp with the new songs a feature of the gig. Some of the best songs I’ve heard all year. This album won me back/over.
