V/A, Southern Funkin’ – Louisiana Funk and Soul 1967-1979 (2005)

Subtitled Dirty Grooves From The Deep South this excellent 2LP comp is a reminder of the parallel universes/other worlds that exist in music. Everything on here feels like a great funk gem – but so many of them are forgotten/unknown and certainly less compiled. This makes for a joyous occasion every time I rediscover this record. I like buying this sort of compilation on vinyl, great label, liner notes to contextualise and a just a kick-ass/can’t go wrong selection. You’ve got to love it. Bought this off the shelf one day, browsing. Long live record stores for that, eh?
