The Righteous Brothers, You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling (1965)
Whenever I think of – or hear – the title song I think back to the rock’n’roll documentary I sat glued to at age 11 or 12. Learning so many things – so much trivia in particular – about music. Apparently You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling took on a name as “the bathroom single” for DJs because it was an early example of a single stepping outside that 2-3 minute running time. They could put this on and run to the loo. So there’s the Phil Spector genius at play here. And the soulful vocals of The Righteous Brothers (not really brothers at all, the same documentary series would tell me). And then there’s me imagining a dude running to the john. I bought this album a couple of years ago, saw the cover and thought back to those VHS tapes I’d watch over and over. Learning that entire trivia. Stuff I can’t shake. Or while I tried this song would be playing at any rate.
