Miles Davis, Blue Christmas (1983)

The title track used to crack me up – I could spot Bob Dorough’s voice a mile off (as I said here). But this is a decent comp all up, even with that near-novelty song to wrap things up. All of the material has been released – in some form or another – but it works well as a good collection of various highlights. I first knew this as a $4 cassette tape; one of the things I bought after first being introduced to Miles Davis. My folks had a few of the 80s albums on CD and I wanted to go deeper, and start my own Miles collection. I now have an iPod with over 100 Miles Davis albums on it – loads of tapes, CDs, records too. So that certainly happened; my own collection I mean. And I bought this album – a few years ago now, four or five at least, because when I spotted it on the shelf I had a little chuckle, thinking of Bob singing in that hammy-cartoon way, “merrrry x-mas…”
