Songs For Christchurch
Southbound
Released today – and any New Zealander will know today is the second anniversary of the 2011 February Christchurch quake – this album, a compilation of songs (called Songs For Christchurch) is a project that has been pulled together in the wake of the quake, indeed it has taken two years for this album to see its eventual release.
All of the money raised from sales of this album will benefit Christchurch charities.
There are some songs and artists on this album that I don’t care about or care for. But it’s futile to pick on acts when the intentions behind a project are for a cause that it feels like everyone in New Zealand is behind – in spirit, in some way, shape or form.
There are also some great songs on this album. So buy it and support the cause.
I don’t often go in for PR and advertising in place of reviews but I just wanted to tell you about this album. There are 21 songs gathered and if you don’t like Fly My Pretties, The Black Seeds, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Flight of the Conchords…well you might like The Nudge, The Unfaithful Ways, The Yoots and Tim Finn. Or vice versa – or some combination. Something here should appeal – and certainly the aim of the project is to raise money and awareness for the ongoing plight of Christchurch; to raise money for the charity organisations.
I can see the good in that.
And even the songs I don’t like seemed okay when I played this through – maybe that’s the impact of knowing that everyone involved has approached this with a heart-in-the-right-place selfless attitude. I like to think so.
Click here if you want to buy the album. And this Sunday there is an official concert/launch.
