Mark Turner is in a Wellington band called The Eversons where he writes cool songs and performs bass solos. Check out The Eversons’ album here. And EP here. Here are five albums he’s loving right now…
– Tame Impala, Lonerism: The best album I’ve heard all year. I love how the writer Kevin Parker has arranged the album to suit mixer Dave Fridmann’s unique style. A rare album where the songwriting is excellent and the arrangement/sounds/production is just as good. Should probably stop listening to this over and over before I kill it for myself.
– The Temptations, Greatest Hits: From what I’ve listened to so far The Tempations are at their best when they’re releasing awesome A-sides. They released this in 1966 and a lot of it is written by Smokey Robinson, Pete Moore and Eddie Holland. So amazing.
– Toy Love, Cuts: This is great, Chris Knox is great.
– The Mint Chicks, Screens: Kody and Ruban Nielson are two of my favourite songwriters in NZ. I love how they ditched the noisy punk thing on this record and went for a bizarre Zombies psychedelic thing. It’s really strong melodically and so consistent.
– The Cosbys, How’m I Gonna Lose You This Christmas: Only two songs, but what a single. And a Christmas one too. Wish these guys would get their shit together and release more stuff.
