Black Sabbath to Play One NZ Show

Black Sabbath will play one NZ show, next year, Vector Arena, Auckland. But where is Bill Ward? Don’t answer that question – I know he’s not part of the line-up for this reunion tour. It’s three-quarters of the band – but for all the talk of Geezer’s lyrics and doom’n’gloom basslines, Tony Iommi’s ironman riffing and Ozzy’s voice (something he hasn’t had for a lot longer than he ever had) it was Bill Ward that made Sabbath for me.

Part of me is curious to see how the band would be some 40 years on – and part of me wants no part of it.

I might just go listen to the Paranoid record – the best example of Bill Ward’s brilliance with(in) that band.

Are you excited about Sabbath playing NZ? Will you be going?

I am excited. Aging rockers don’t usually do it for me, but Sabbath were a huge part of my musical diet when I was a “youf”. I’d go just to see Iommi really. I actually think Ozzy’s voice has held out amazingly well. Of course, a lot of that could be some serious production…

      It could (still) be good…
